Get to know Geriatrician Dr. Zareen Taj Syed, who serves patients in Edison, New Jersey.

An extremely professional and caring geriatrician, Dr. Syed works as part of a team with other healthcare providers, to address the natural aging that goes on within the body and to manage multiple medical problems and ensure social support. 

Working with patients throughout the State of New Jersey, she is the owner & operator of Comprehensive Geriatrics in Edison. Her specialties include caring after the elderly who have problems with confusion, senility, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, and dementia.

Professionally, she is affiliated with multiple medical venues, among which are RWJ University Hospital Rahway, Hackensack Meridian Health JFK Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, Trinitas Regional Medical Center, and Raritan Bay Medical Center – Perth Amboy Division.

In regards to her educational background, Dr. Syed earned her medical degree from the Deccan College of Medical Sciences in 2001. Wanting to further her education, she went on to complete her residency in family medicine at Case Western Reserve University, MetroHealth Medical Center in 2009, followed by a fellowship in geriatrics at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2010.

A member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on the health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. A geriatrician is a health care provider who focuses on patient well-being and independent functioning. These allopathic or osteopathic health care providers are specifically trained to evaluate and manage the unique health care needs and special treatment requirements of older people.

On a more personal note, apart from speaking English, Dr. Syed also speaks Hindi, Telugu, Spanish, and Urdu.
