  • My mother's foot has been amputated due to gangrene. Is there a way to help her recover faster?

Yes, I would verify that the prosthetist made the prosthesis properly, then send you to a physical therapist he/she trusts for gait analysis and training. If that is ineffective, a psychologist may have to play a role overcoming any fear with the new prosthesis and coping with the loss of limb. READ MORE

  • I have a lot of pain from heel spurs. What can I do?

Start with an over-the-counter heel gel insert, then put a water bottle in the freezer and, after frozen, roll it on the sore spot for 5 minutes, 4 times a day. If no help, see a physiatrist or podiatrist who will order an X-ray to see the size and location of the spur and perform a steroid injection in the heel. (Make sure they give you cold spray first!) A custom insert may also be made for you. READ MORE

  • Is there a test to diagnose nerve damage?

We would perform a nerve conduction test which consists of a series of small electric impulses to determine the speed of your nerves. If they are running slow we will have a diagnosis of polyneuropathy. Treatment consists of medication. READ MORE

  • My husband has been diagnosed with tennis elbow. How long should he rest?

Tough answer as it’s based on an examination of severity, then treatment consisting of anti-inflammatories and/or injection with strap support and rest until pain free. Then, when pain free, he needs a tennis lesson to correct his stroke so it doesn’t recur!! I can’t cure without the pro!!!! READ MORE

  • Post joint replacement

See the PT who is experienced in post joint rehab after surgery as ordered by your orthopedist. Only if your progress stalls after 4-6 weeks, then you can be evaluated by a physiatrist for other issues that may have occurred. READ MORE
