Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Stephanie H. Dunlap, who serves patients in Augusta, Georgia.

An established cardiologist, Dr. Dunlap serves as an attending physician and Professor of Medicine at the Augusta University Medical Center.

The Augusta University Medical Center serves the state of Georgia. It is a 520-bed tertiary hospital that provides many services not available in other facilities in the region. Specialized services include the region's best-equipped and busiest ACS verified Level I Trauma Center, serving patients from over 13 counties, and specialized transplantation for pancreas and kidney.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Dunlap earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, before completing her residency in internal medicine at Southeastern Medical Center. She then went on to complete her fellowships in cardiovascular disease and congestive heart failure at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by an additional fellowship in heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the Cleveland Clinic.

A proud member of the American Osteopathic Association, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
