Now that awareness of autism spectrum disorder is growing, many are noticing that some children who have been diagnosed with a different primary disability may actually have autism spectrum disorder. Most common is intellectual disability disorder, which shares many symptoms with autism spectrum disorder. It can be difficult for doctors to analyze which is the true culprit for many symptoms within children, leading to much overlap.
