Is Autism Really Still on the Rise?
President Trump's comments
On February 14th, Trump met with Betsy DeVos, the Secretary of Education, along with many principals, teachers, and parents of schools from a variety of towns and states within the US. When given the opportunity to ask questions to his guests, he turned to a principal at a special education center in Virginia if she's seen a large increase in autism in children. She responded that she has noted a dramatic increase, and that more children have autism than those without at her school. President Trump went on to ask, "What's going on with autism?" and noted how dramatic the increase is. The principal responded that they believed the statistics are 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism.
