10 Recipes for a Delicious Gluten-Free Thanksgiving

Macaroni and cheese

While it may not be the most common dish on the Thanksgiving table, it certainly has become a family favorite over the recent years. It's also another dish that is easy to modify for celiac patients.

The recipe we have replaces the macaroni and the bread topping. But, you can also add chopped and cooked broccoli and bacon into the cheese mix to enhance the flavor.

This is what you'll need:

  • 1 lb of gluten-free shell pasta
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp. of salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. of pepper
  • 4 1/2 cups of milk
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • 4 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and Swiss cheese

Now, everyone knows the best macaroni and cheese is when it is baked with a crumbly topping over it.

For a nice and crispy topping that is gluten-free, here's what you need:

  • 2 slices of gluten-free bread that's toasted and crumbled
  • 1 tsp. of softened butter
  • 1/2 tsp. of chili powder

The cooking and preparation time for this macaroni and cheese should take about an hour.

Preheat the oven to 375 and grease a baking pan so the macaroni doesn't stick. Boil a pot of water with some salt and cook until the macaroni is tender. Afterwards, use a saucepan to melt the butter and stir the salt and pepper into it. Then remove it from the heat.

Combine the milk and starch into a bowl and mix it until it's smooth. Use the melted butter mixture into the bowl, and once it is stirred in, return it into the saucepan and cook the mixture. You should also be stirring it constantly so the sauce would thicken. Once it does, remove the pan off the heat and stir in 3 cups of cheese until it melts right in.

When you're ready with both your cheese and your macaroni, pour it into the pan. Then, combine the remaining cheese, bread crumbs, butter and chili powder in a bowl before putting it over the macaroni. Make sure the spices are mixed in very well.

Once it's ready, bake in the oven until you see a nice, golden brown color on top.
