Diabetes Patients May Be at a Higher Risk for Strokes

What does a ischemic stroke involve?

This specific type of stroke is due to narrowing or blockages within the arteries that supply blood to the brain, which ultimately causes ischemia-the significant reduction of blood flow that results in damaged brain cells, as alluded to above.  As for hemorrhagic strokes, these are due to arteries within the brain either leaking blood or bursting.  The result includes an added pressure on the brain cells due to the leaked blood, which ends up damaging the brain cells.
