Has the Congressional Lupus Caucus Made Any Progress?

Lupus is a lifelong autoimmune disease where the immune system becomes damaged, unbalanced and causes inflammation and tissue damage to almost every organ in the body. The disease affects the skin, kidneys, lungs, heart, and brain. Lupus can also cause seizures, miscarriages, organ failures, heart attacks and stroke.

Approximately 9 in 10 patients with lupus are women, and the risk of lupus is high among Native Americans, Asians, African-Americans, and Hispanics.
