MRI is More Sensitive in Spotting Progression of Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy
So, what's the problem with traditional methods?
The study clearly highlighted the problem with the traditional methods in use. FSHD is known to progress slowly over the years in most cases. There is apparently a need for more sensitive biomarkers.
Due to higher sensitivity and accuracy of MRI, it would have far more utility in finding the short-term beneficial effects of interventions aimed at improving muscular strength, in cases where traditional methods would prove to be futile.
