MRI is More Sensitive in Spotting Progression of Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy
What were the results?
At the end of the study, MPI indicated worsening of muscular function (higher fat content in muscles) by 2.3%, but scores of MMT, CSS, MFM remained almost unchanged.
The study demonstrated many things. Firstly, that MMT, CSS, MFM and perhaps other similar methods were not sensitive enough for minor functional changes in the slowly progressing muscular dystrophy. Secondly, it showed that MRI was more sensitive in such cases with the ability to notice even the minimal changes in muscles.
