The Importance of Light in Caring for People with Alzheimer's
How caregivers benefit
Another article in the Journal of Alzheimer’s disease discusses how the sleep patterns of people with Alzheimer’s not only affects their well-being, but also the well-being of their caregivers. This article looked at numerous other studies that analyzed the effect of light exposure on sleep, depression, as well as reducing agitation in people with Alzheimer’s. The authors highlight that the type of light that people are exposed to is important. They explain that the quantity of white light necessary to activate the circadian rhythm is at least “two orders of magnitude” greater than that necessary to activate the visual system.
