The Invisible Symptoms of Fibromyalgia
Poor sleep
Sleep has been mentioned a few times and does seem to be a recurring theme. That is because the connection between poor sleep and fibro is a big one. Between the hormonal shifts caused by the disorder, vivid nightmares, insomnia and the chronic pain, it’s safe to say that many of those who suffer from fibro also suffer from very, very poor sleep. This can start the chronic cycle of increased fibro symptoms and a lack of sleep. In other words, the poorer the sleep and the more tired the patient is, the more likely that their fibro symptoms will flare-up.
On the flip side of things, sometimes fibro patients suffer from hypersomnia which is a condition that causes too much sleep or rather, the inability to wake-up. If someone is chronically exhausted, this may sound like heaven, however, getting too much sleep can be just as bad as not getting enough.
