The Promising Future of Gene Therapy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Exon skipping, myostatin inhibitors, stem cell transplantation, and cardiomyopathy

Other than this research, more potential treatments are under way. One is called Exon Skipping, which is essentially an attempt to alleviate muscle weakness more to eventually provide a cure. Another is Myostatin Inhibitors, which aims at developing therapies to encourage muscle re-growth and to lead to regaining muscle strength. Yet another treatment being researched is Stem Cell Transplantation. As the name suggests, it involves accelerating muscle repair by stem cell transplantation to Duchenne MD muscle. Fortifying DMD Muscle hopes to make the DMD muscles more damage resistant. Finally, there is a study on Cardiomyopathy aiming at treating heart damage caused by DMD and preserving heart function. In fact, there are a lot more recent studies on DMD, which are not listed here that can address the problem.
