The Stress that Comes with Caring for Alzheimer's
Discussing the "What-if's"
While it’s a topic that no one wants to think about, and you hope will never happen, it’s important to discuss these “what ifs” of later-in-life illness and care with family members before the situation arises. While the majority of caregivers would like more help from family members, only 20% of people said they have ever spoken with a family member about what their own care preferences would be as they age. These kinds of conversations can be difficult, but they’re important. Being financially prepared for the future can take some of the stress out of an already incredibly hard situation. It may be too late to have these conversations with your parents or other older relatives, but by having these conversations with your children and loved ones who may end up caring for you, you’re saving your loved ones from an even heavier burden in the future.
