Former Disney Channel star and pop singer Demi Lovato was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2010 when she was just 22 years old. Lovato had just finished a stint in rehab after dealing with depression, struggles with eating, and thoughts of self-harm. Since coming out of rehab, Lovato has been much more public about her struggles with mental health. Lovato has spoken about how for a long time she didn’t understand what was wrong or why she felt bad. After working through some of her problems with a medical professional, Lovato was able to find relief from the chemical imbalances caused by bipolar disorder. She continues to fight the stigma against bipolar disorder both with her public advocacy and her ongoing career in the music industry.
