Tips for Caring for Someone with Parkinson's
Become an advocate
Caregivers should not be afraid to ask difficult questions to medical staff. A big part of being a caregiver for Parkinson’s patients is to become advocates. Being an advocate ensures that patients receive the best care, are provided with the best treatment options and have access to any resources that are available.
While a big part of a caregiver's role is to advocate for the patient, it’s also critical that the caregivers be advocates for themselves as well. Find out if there are programs available to access physical and financial help. A caregiver who is on the clock 24/7 can easily get burned out if they are not provided with another set of hands so that they can take themselves out for a cup of coffee or to a movie.
