Tips for Caring for Someone with Parkinson's

Talking, or even typing, does help

Don’t keep the stress that comes from caring for someone battling Parkinson’s bottled-up inside.  Find a support group or a few, and talk about what’s going on.  Many carers are surprised to see that they are not alone in their feelings.  It’s common to feel overwhelmed with all that is involved when dealing with Parkinson’s patients.  Some carers may begin to resent the patients  - especially if they have had to give-up part of their lives to care for their loved ones.  Just as the patients have to go through a grieving process before moving on to acceptance, so do the caregivers.

If going support meetings or attending drop-in events is not possible - the Internet is a great place to find like-minded individuals.  There are countless online groups dedicated to those who are caring for a Parkinson’s patients.  An online support group or chat room or even a resource page is a great way to access support 24/7.
