Tips for Maintaining Hobbies While Having Muscular Dystrophy
Foods that muscular dystrophy patients should eat and avoid
If a person with muscular dystrophy would want to maintain their hobbies, changing their diet should be a priority as well. The University of Maryland Medical Center stated that these tips could help reduce the symptoms of this illness:
- Test for food allergens: Watch out for food allergens like corn, dairy, food additives, gluten, preservatives, and soy. However, it’s okay for a person to eat these types of food as long as he or she is already tested.
- Choose healthier options: Avoid eating processed and refined foods since they are generally unhealthy. Instead, focus on foods that are rich in antioxidants such as fruits and vegetables. This could not only make a person with muscular dystrophy healthier, but this could also give them the strength to do their favorite pastime.
- Avoid stimulants: Stimulants like alcohol, coffee, and tobacco should not be consumed by a muscular dystrophy patient. Although they’re effective at stimulating one’s senses, it could seriously hamper a person’s already sensitive muscles.
