5. How to keep your job
Even though MS can be a devastating diagnosis, and the prognosis and severity of the disease can vary, many people will still keep their job right after they are diagnosed. However, this depends on the job. If you have a physical job, particularly one that requires heavy lifting or the use of potentially dangerous equipment, it may become necessary to rethink keeping this position. The muscular and cognitive changes that come as a result of MS could make these types of jobs dangerous. This does not mean that you have to be jobless though. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, your employer is required to make accommodations for you to be able to continue to work safely. If this is not possible, then it may be necessary to look for other means of employment.
