Coping with a Lack of Services After Autism Diagnosis

Kids who are not diagnosed

Students who express signs of autism but do not have a definite diagnosis are classified as developmentally delayed. Last year, 1.2% of students within Carla Kinder Panther Academy’s special education program were said to be developmentally delayed. The officials at the new facility at Elizabethtown Independent School stressed that they are seeing a higher percentage of young autistic children enrolled at the school. In 2016, the same year that Landon was enrolled, 32 new students with autism were enrolled in the district’s special education program. In Hardin County Schools, 142 new students with autism were enrolled. “It’s a trend that we’ll continue to see,” said Kristin Froedge, director of special education for Elizabethtown Independent Schools.
