Maximizing Exercise with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Swimming

Swimming is also a wonderful, low-impact aerobic exercise that can benefit IBD patients. Swimming also provides mental and physical benefits and is the least stressful on the body out of the other options for aerobic exercise. People who have chronic conditions like Crohn's find that they are able to exercise for much longer when they do water-based training. Swimming is especially helpful for improving joint health, and this is incredibly important for Crohn's because up to 1/4 of Crohn's patients develop arthritis associated with their disease.
