Autism: Helping Young Adults with Puberty

How can parents help?

How can parents help?

If you’re a parent of a child with autism, there is help out there! Dr. Kelly McKinnon-Bermingham and two graduate students from the University of California, Irvine, have started a special educational program for children with autism. Dr. McKinnon-Bermingham is a clinical psychologist in Santa Ana, California. She is the Director of Behavior Intervention at UC Irvine’s Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Together with two graduate students, Nick Tillier and Nick Riley, they started a wonderful program to help teens and preteens with autism. They recruited autism specialists and help from parent volunteers. This program teaches kids about the changes that come with puberty and what they should do about them.

The program was federally funded through the Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health.
