It's Time for Educators to Get Educated on Managing Children with Diabetes

Promote their well-being and communication

The psychological and physiological well-being of a child is an absolute integral part of their being, and with this said, teachers should promote playtime and physical activities in order to maintain their health. By promoting insulin sensitivity, these exercise-based activities help in controlling blood sugar levels. Meanwhile, teachers should also be wary of hypoglycemia, a condition that involves the decrease of the blood sugar level to below normal. Equipment to monitor blood glucose and snacks should be available for easy access.

Parents and teachers definitely have to communicate clearly the ways to manage a diabetic child. In case of the absence of the teacher, at least one trained or briefed personnel has to be in the classroom. No diabetic child should be left unmonitored for a long period of time.
