Her first statement was short and sums up what she believes should be everyone’s approach to an autistic child: “Develop your son’s strengths.” Grandin claimed that her abilities in art were always encouraged, and that this single thread of encouragement carried out throughout the entirety of her career. She credited a high school science teacher who motivated her to study, and also credits her mother for not being too overprotective.
