What Not to Say to Someone with Breast Cancer

Avoid "At least..." statements

You might want to comfort someone by staying positive and pointing out the bright side in the situation. "At least it's curable", or "at least you haven't lost all your hair" is a good attempt at trying to stay optimistic. However, saying something like this is actually hurtful and unsympathetic to someone who is going through breast cancer. Saying "at least" implies that you are belittling their situation since it's not the worst-case scenario. No matter how "lucky" anyone breast cancer is to have it better than the next gal (or guy), remember that it's still a terrifying disease and your loved one is still suffering a lot of pain. Don't compare. Remember that everyone's struggles are relative.
