Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Wissam Hoyek, who serves patients in Staten Island, New York.

Respected in his field, Dr. Hoyek is a highly trained interventional cardiologist. He sees patients at his private practice –  Wissam Hoyek, MD, PLLC – in Staten Island, New York. In regards to his educational background, Dr. Hoyek graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Lebanese University in 1996. Upon graduation, he relocated to the United States where he performed his residency in internal medicine at Staten Island University Hospital in 2001. Years later, he completed his fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn in 2004 and 2005, respectively. 

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, he is board-certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

In his academic role, Dr. Hoyek serves as a Clinical Instructor within the Department of Medicine at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine.

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter based treatment of structural heart diseases. Interventional cardiologists specialize in treating a range of heart and vascular conditions through a process called catheterization. The physician inserts a tube called a catheter into one of the patient’s major blood vessels, usually in the thigh.
