Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Carlos Roel Alfonso, who serves patients in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.

Being a board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiologist, some of Dr. Alfonso’s areas of expertise include nuclear cardiology, cardio-oncology, preventive cardiology, as well as women and heart disease. He is a part of the team of medical professionals at Bart De Gregorio, MD, LLC in Glen Ridge, New Jersey.

Among the many conditions he has treated include high cholesterol, heart attack, pulmonary hypertension, atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, just to name a few.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Alfonso earned his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines in 1993. Wanting to further his training, he relocated to the United States. Once there, he completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Seton Hall University School of Health and Medical Sciences in 1998 and 2001, respectively.

Continuously advancing his efforts, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and nuclear cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who excel and strive to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Among his various accomplishments, Dr. Alfonso maintains fellowship status with the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and the American College of Physicians (FACP).

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

Recognized as an expert in his field, Dr. Alfonso is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including: Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctor (2016-2020), Castle Connolly Top Doctors New York Metro Area (2020), Jersey’s Best Magazine Top Doctors (2017-2019), and Top Doctors New York Metro Area (digital guide / 2016-2020). 

In addition to English, he speaks Tagalog and Spanish.
