Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Edward Baptista, who serves patients in Humble, Texas.

Recognized as a well-versed cardiologist, Dr. Baptista’s professional interests include general cardiology, preventive care, lipid management, heart failure management, and echocardiography. He sees patients at Vital Heart & Vein in Humble, Texas. 

Vital Heart & Vein provides comprehensive care for cardiovascular conditions, including diagnostic testing and treatment for heart attack, stroke, and more. Since joining the heart hospital in 2003, Dr. Baptista has served as Chairman of Cardiovascular Services at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood and was Chief of Staff in 2010. Highly regarded by the hospital staff and his colleagues, he was honored five times as “Physician of the Year” at the said establishment. 

Born in Quezon City, Philippines, Dr. Baptista grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. After graduating as valedictorian from high school, he attended the University of Dallas where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Here, he also completed his residency in internal medicine and served an additional year as Chief Medical Resident at the UT-Houston affiliated hospitals. At the same institutions, he completed a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine and served as Chief Cardiology Fellow. During his fellowship, he received the “Merck Clinical Fellowship Award” and was a recipient of a “National Institutes of Health Fellowship Grant.”

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Throughout his line of work, Dr. Baptista has authored and co-authored several research abstracts and journal articles. He has also participated as a co-investigator for several clinical trials. Alongside his clinical role, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

When not at work, Dr. Baptista enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, traveling, and playing golf.
