Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Benito Carrera Leal, who serves patients in Austin, Texas.

A committed obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Leal works with patients at his private practice in Austin, Texas. He specializes in minimally invasive / endoscopic surgery and is experienced in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and reproductive surgery and infertility.

Back in the early days of his academic career, he received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi Faculty of Medicine in Mexico in 1990. He then went on to complete his residency in obstetrics and gynecology and his fellowship in reproductive surgery at the John Peter Smith Hospital in 1998 and 1999, respectively.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. Leal is a Fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), and the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and is an active member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, he is affiliated with multiple hospitals, including St. David’s Medical Center, Seton Medical Center Austin, North Central Baptist Hospital, and Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. 

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).
