Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Jane Shows Atkerson, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Renowned obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Atkerson, has a passion for caring for women through all stages of life and is trained in the MonaLisa Touch procedure for gynecological health. A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, she is in practice with Women Partners In OB/GYN in San Antonio, Texas, which she joined in 2003. 

Women Partners In OB/GYN has been providing care to women in North San Antonio since 1985. Their mission is to thrive in the ever-changing medical environment. “We believe we will succeed if we adhere to the values of honesty and integrity while providing quality service in a caring manner that respects the dignity of all” as stated on their website. 

In 1995, Dr. Atkerson obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. Four years later, in 1999, she earned her medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. She then went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2003. 

The doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada. 

Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health. 

A native of San Antonio, Dr. Atkerson is married and her spouse is an educator. She has three daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
