He then went on to complete his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Southern California, followed by his fellowship in thoracic & cardiovascular surgery at the same University. Dr. Ashton is board-certified in thoracic & cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. 

Dr. Ashton’s interests include off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, mitral valve repair, aortic valve replacement, mini maze procedure, minimally invasive valve surgery, thoracoscopic procedures, lung cancer, and esophageal cancer.
