  • Do ankle sprains ever fully heal?

Yes they should! I would start off by getting your feet adjusted that way the biomechanics in your feet are functioning properly. Then follow with some ankle strengthening exercises using a band. This way you strengthen the ligaments in your ankle. READ MORE

  • Should I workout if my neck hurts?

Depends on the neck pain and the cause of the neck pain. If it is a dull achy pain not caused by any trauma or accidents then you should have no problem working out. If it’s too painful while working out then quit or only focus on legs. If it’s severe pain or after an accident or trauma then I wouldn’t until you get checked by a doctor. I would need more history of your neck pain to be able to give you a more definite answer. READ MORE

  • Can massage make a pinched nerve worse?

For most people no. If anything, it will help the muscles and tendons around that nerve to relax relieving some pressure on that nerve. READ MORE

  • How do I relieve tension at the base of my skull?

Good morning! A move that I personally like to do will require a spouse, friend or family member to help. You can do it yourself but I don’t think the results will be as great. Take your thumb or have them take their thumb, start at the base of your skull and slowly rub down the neck about an inch or so with some pressure. Do this about 5-7 times. If this does not work for you (everyone responds differently), then let me know and I have other moves for you to try. This one is my favorite though. Dr. Kortni READ MORE

  • How long does it take to fix bad posture?

It can take 6+ weeks depending on what you do outside of your appointments with a chiro to correct it. Exercise, take breaks and get up from long periods of sitting, keep your computer and your phone eye level, and sit as if you’re trying not to sit on your tail (if you had one) such as sitting with your butt sticking out then your shoulders will naturally follow suit. I hope this helps! It’s all about breaking bad habits while creating good habits as well. Dr. Kortni D.C. READ MORE

Get to know Chiropractor Dr. Kortni Richards, who serves patients in Clinton, Iowa.

A licensed chiropractor, Dr. Richards works alongside Dr. Shannon Cody Woodward at Integrated Muscle & Spine Chiropractic Clinic in Clinton, Iowa.

Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on attempting to treat disease once it occurs, Integrated Muscle & Spine Chiropractic Clinic emphasizes improving health in an effort to reduce the risk of pain and illness in the first place. Most people would rather be healthy and avoid illness, if they could. This is one of the main reasons for the big surge in the popularity of the wellness center.

Some of the conditions treated include: low back pain, mid back pain, neck pain, sciatica, disc injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pain, rotator cuff injuries, knee pain, TMJ, migraines, headaches, sprains/strains, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, sprained ankles, foot pain, plantar fasciitis, wrist/hand pain, rib pain, fibromyalgia, upper and lower cross syndromes, and many others.

The first chiropractor in her family, Dr. Richards is originally from the California/Arizona border before moving to Iowa. After graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from California Baptist University in 2016, she went on to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2020.

During her time at Palmer, she was an extremity intern, which involved teaching extremity adjusting as well. While at Palmer, she also trained in flexion distraction and activator.

Currently, Dr. Richards is certified in SFMA and plans on adding other certifications.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain, back pain, headaches, vertigo and a long list of other ailments and conditions. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of medication or surgery.

Outside of the office, Dr. Richards enjoys hunting, fishing, scuba diving, playing sand volleyball, and pretty much anything else outdoors. Her favorite place to vacation is anywhere with a beach.
