Are Married Couples Less Likely to Get Alzheimer's?

Eat well

Eat well

Inflammation and insulin resistant neurons in the brain are thought to be one of the causes of Alzheimer's. The disease has even been called “diabetes of the brain” and a growing number of physicians are talking about how adjusting eating habits can reduce inflammation in the body overall and help to protect the brain.

  • Reduce the amount of sugar; white flour, white rice, and pasta are considered to be refined carbs that can cause dramatic spikes in blood sugar, which has been found to inflame the brain.
  • Eat lots of vegetables, whole grains, fish and olive oil. In other words, a Mediterranean diet.
  • Avoid trans fats, that’s the stuff that is found in fast food, packaged food and those sugared donuts found in the grocery store
  • Omega-3 fats are excellent for the promotion of a healthy brain.
  • Eat the rainbow! Green leafy vegetables, berries, peppers, and broccoli. Basically if it’s bright and comes from the ground it’s good for the body and the brain.

If eating healthy isn’t always an option, don’t forget to include supplements and vitamins for a healthy diet.
