Want to Find Rheumatoid Arthritis Relief? Eat Fish, Studies Say
Great benefits despite lack of information for long-term
The authors of the study were very pleased with their findings, and are confident that raising the levels of fish consumed will be able to reduce disease activity for those who are suffering with rheumatoid arthritis. However, despite how confident they are in their findings, they do want readers to be aware that they only looked into the relationship between fish consumption and disease activity for a specific time period. They were not able to look into cause-and-effect over the long term. Tedeschi also points out that she cannot definitively state whether eating fish would offer similar anti-inflammatory perks to those who do not have rheumatoid arthritis, although she does reference previous studies and research that suggest there is a protective effect, albeit rather small.
Tedeschi concludes, "If our findings can be replicated to other populations and over long periods of time, we may be able to show one specific reason for people with RA to eat more fish." Of course, she states that there are already many reasons to do so, regardless of whether one has arthritis or not, due to its numerous health benefits.
