  • Will I need anesthesia during root canal?

    Great question. A root canal is removal of nerve tissue within your tooth. Usually caused by bacteria that entered the nerve canal. To remove that inflamed tissue the Dr. will manipulate the inside of the tooth. It is very stimulating and with hurt like a Mother Hubbard if not numb or frozen as they call it in Canada. The anesthesia of the tooth is for pain control and comfort. It is not required but highly encouraged. Root canal are not the horrible thing they were 20 years ago. It won’t hurt with anesthesia but you will feel pressure. No more then pushing your finger into your leg gently. You will feel but not pain. Dr Jensen READ MORE

  • Do children need fillings for baby teeth?

    Of course they do. Cavities only do one thing; they get bigger. Baby teeth have large nerve centers and thin covering unlike adult teeth that have thick covering and smaller nerve centers. So cavities can reach the nerve quicker. This causes pain. Can lead to swelling and dental infection. This will possibly cause damage to underlying developing teeth. Why would you want a child to be in pain is s better question. Children miss school and activities due to mouth pain. It affects diet, health and concentration.   • Can a missing tooth cause problems in my mouth?

    Not in most cases. Depending on which tooth, your age, position of other teeth and bite it may be completely fine. In some cases the teeth on either side or opposing teeth can migrate into that space and change your bite. Dr Jensen READ MORE

  • What are the best ways to get rid of cankersores?

    There are a few different types of canker sores. Unfortunately the best way to get rid of them is to allow them to heal on their own. There are some medications your dentist can prescribe you but it is best that it heals on it’s own. This usually takes between seven and 10 days. The best way to deal with canker sores is to find the source that is causing them. Sometimes it’s a certain food sometimes or tauma and other things. So try to keep a log of the things you ate a day or so before that canker sore appear. That way you can avoid those things in the future. When you have a canker sore it is best to avoid certain foods like salt, sour and spicy. Those things tend to irritate it also things like lemon juice apple juice and anything acidic.     Dear parent, Teething usually begins between four and seven months of age. The timing of teething is not as important as the sequence of teething. We typically look for the bottom front teeth to erupt followed by the top front teeth followed by the side teeth, etc. It is the sequence that we typically find to be the most importance and teething. That average age of 4 to 7 months is just an average age. Many times, the teeth do not come in for way after that time or Sometimes before that time as well. We also look at the development of the child. For example we look to see that all other milestones are being made. If all of the milestones are being made we do not concern ourselves with the timing of those tooth eruption. If those other milestones are not being made, then we look for other possibilities.     To close a gap there are a few ways. Best way is with braces of course. Another way is to build up the teeth with bonding. But sometimes that makes huge front teeth that may not look great.     The early signs of gum disease for children are red and puffy gum tissue. Children don’t experience severe gum disease unless there are severe issues. They do experience gingivitis which presents as red puffy gums that bleed easy with irritation. Adults do experience gum disease in a similar fashion.
