Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Marie France Poulin, who serves patients in Massachusetts. 

Dr. Poulin is an adult structural and congenital heart disease interventionist working within the CardioVascular Institute at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Namely, she is the Associate Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, and the Associate Director of Structural Heart Clinical Services.

Likewise, she serves as an attending at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth, an acute care, 164-bed, not-for-profit community hospital serving 12 towns in Plymouth and Barnstable counties.

Her clinical interests include atrial septal defects, transcatheter PFO closure, MitraClip, mitral valve disease, transcatheter treatment of valvular heart disease, transcatheter Valve replacement and repair, transcatheter treatment of adult congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology, stroke prevention, and intravascular imaging.

Graduating with her medical degree from Laval University in Canada, Dr. Poulin went on to perform her internship/residency at St. Peter’s University Hospital. She then went on to further her training with fellowships at Rush University Medical Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Maintaining the highest level certifications in her field, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Furthermore, she is board-certified in nuclear medicine by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM). The ABNM is the primary certifying organization for nuclear medicine in the United States, and certifies physicians as specialists in the practice of nuclear medicine.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Poulin is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI).

Among her academic titles, she serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
