  • Should you see a chiropractor for neck pain?

Yes! Chiropractors treat neck pain all the time after a thorough exam to make sure nothing more serious is going on. Look into chiropractors that do muscle work as well since sometimes our neck pain is caused by tight postural muscles. Thank you for your time! • Does a chiropractor help with disc herniation?

Yes! Just depends how much it is herniated. If it is completely ruptured, you are better off seeing an ORA. Otherwise, chiropractors are perfect on helping with a disc herniation. I would look for a chiropractor specialized in muscle work or McKenzie Method. Thank you for your time! • Can back surgery help sciatica?

Depends on what is causing the sciatica. I would suggest seeing a chiropractor first. If there is a lack of mobility in your low back or a misalignment, the muscles will put pressure on your sciatic nerve therefore irritating it and causing it sciatica. I would look into other options first and make surgery your absolute last resort. Thank you for your time! • How should I sleep with hip pain?

I would do hip stretches and hip mobility exercises before bed to help with that hip pain. If you are a back sleeper, you can put a small pillow under your knees. If you are a side sleeper, put a pillow between your knees or bear hug a pillow then slowly roll your body weight onto the pillow and off your hip. Thank you for your time! • Can you become paralyzed from herniated disc surgery?

It can but it not extremely common. It depends on several other factors. It can cause paralysis if its ruptured and the location of the herniation. There are several different classifications or severities of disc herniation. There are also several different location/directions it can herniate. Other factors play into it as well such as age or any recent traumas. For a peace of mind, I suggest seeing an orthopedic surgeon and getting an MRI done if you havent already. • Can chiropractic help with food allergies?

Yes! This will take some googling though. There are a lot of chiropractors who perform food allergy testing and focus on nutrition that is all personalized. I would look for chiropractors associated with Wellness Way or any chiropractor that performs what is called a Dutch Test. Thank you for your time! READ MORE

  • What is the best thing to do after a chiropractic adjustment?

Stay moving! Movement will be your best friend and help with any soreness you may have especially if this is your first adjustment. Also make sure youre drinking plenty of water. Your muscles tighten when youre dehydrated which wont help with any soreness. Thank you for your time! READ MORE

  • What is the best way to heal a sprained shoulder?

  • Can a chiropractor help with fluid on the knee?

That completely depends on the cause of the fluid and how much fluid is in the knee. I have done light adjustments on the knee and did a lymph drainage KT taping on the knee to help drain some fluid out naturally. More than likely depending on the cause and how much fluid, you may need to see your Primary Care Provider to have the fluid drained. Thank you for your time! • How do chiropractors adjust knees?

  • Is it normal to be sore after the chiropractor?

It is normal to be sore after an adjustment. Some people get sore and some people dont. Depending on where you get sore in your legs, I am assuming your thighs, it means you have probably been walking differently due to your hips being out of alignment. Once your chiropractor adjusts your hips, your leg muscles are probably sore from moving differently than what they once were. If that is not the scenario youre experiencing, I would ask your chiropractor to adjust you differently. Such as, if they do side posture ask them to do drops. If they only utilize one type of technique, then seek out a different chiropractor. Also always mention to them if you were sore after an adjustment and where. Sometimes the chiropractor will automatically change up their adjusting style for you. Thank you for your time! • What are the toxins released after a chiropractic adjustment?

The chemicals released during an adjustment are completely unique to you! It depends on what you're exposed to on a daily basis such as where you work if there's chemicals, what you and drink, what products you clean your home with, etc. The list is endless which is what makes the adjustment so great! Get to know Chiropractor Dr. Kortni Richards, who serves patients in Clinton, Iowa.

A licensed chiropractor, Dr. Richards works alongside Dr. Shannon Cody Woodward at Integrated Muscle & Spine Chiropractic Clinic in Clinton, Iowa.

Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on attempting to treat disease once it occurs, Integrated Muscle & Spine Chiropractic Clinic emphasizes improving health in an effort to reduce the risk of pain and illness in the first place. Most people would rather be healthy and avoid illness, if they could. This is one of the main reasons for the big surge in the popularity of the wellness center.

Some of the conditions treated include: low back pain, mid back pain, neck pain, sciatica, disc injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder pain, rotator cuff injuries, knee pain, TMJ, migraines, headaches, sprains/strains, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, sprained ankles, foot pain, plantar fasciitis, wrist/hand pain, rib pain, fibromyalgia, upper and lower cross syndromes, and many others.

The first chiropractor in her family, Dr. Richards is originally from the California/Arizona border before moving to Iowa. After graduating with her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from California Baptist University in 2016, she went on to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2020.

During her time at Palmer, she was an extremity intern, which involved teaching extremity adjusting as well. While at Palmer, she also trained in flexion distraction and activator.

Currently, Dr. Richards is certified in SFMA and plans on adding other certifications.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain, back pain, headaches, vertigo and a long list of other ailments and conditions. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of medication or surgery.

Outside of the office, Dr. Richards enjoys hunting, fishing, scuba diving, playing sand volleyball, and pretty much anything else outdoors. Her favorite place to vacation is anywhere with a beach.
