Is mammogram procedure safe?
Yes, Mammography is a safe procedure that will examen the tissue of the breast to check for potential cancerous changes. Mammograms began at age 40 without known family history/ no cancer history. Or age 35 if a family history of breast cancer is present. READ MORE
What are the different types of newborn screening tests?
Are you referring to testing that is done on the newborn after delivery? If so, after birth, try to keep baby with you as long as possible, if there are no complications during labor/delivery. This period of time if referred to as the “Golden Hour” and it allows for bonding time with you baby, skin-to-skin contact, and the initiation of breastfeeding if you choose to do so. The babies vitals will be collected, the umbilical cord cut, measurement and weight recorded. The baby will be given a vitamin K shot, a hepatitis vaccine, and eye ointment, these are all optional and can be declined. You babies glucose will be checked, a circumcision and be preformed and a PKU test (checking for genetic disorders) done. Those test are all optional as well. READ MORE

I just want to clarify, you had unprotected intercourse 10/08 and got your cycle 10/13 and you have been consistently getting a cycle every month since correct? Did you take any type of emergency contraception after that encounter? If the answer to the above questions are all yes, I believe you’re fine. Is a TSH value of 3.17 normal in 9 months of pregnancy?
You’re almost at the end, The normal range of the TSH level during the third trimester id 0.3-3.5. Therefore you are neither high nor low. Do you have problems with your thyroid? If not, all clear. If so, your provider will continue to monitor your levels. READ MORE
How can I differentiate between implantation bleeding and periods?
Have you and your spouse been having unprotected intercourse? Have you notice a change in the bleeding patter of your cycles? Implantation bleeding is usually shorter and lighter when compared to a normal period flow. If you are having irregular cycles or changes in your bleeding patterns, consult with you OB/GYN. READ MORE

How popular are water births?
Congratulations are in order first. I personally do not like to participate in water births, that is just my preference. Usually they are done in your home or they can also be done in a birthing center. As a doula I prefer a hospital or birthing center setting. Just for peace of mind. To my knowledge, water births have no been deemed unsafe. READ MORE
Is fertility reduced with spina bifida?
If your husband has Spina Bífida, your future children will have a 50/50 chance of also having the disorder and/or being a carrier of the gene for the disorder. If you are unsure of your own carrier status, you can visit a fertility specialist or your OB/GYN office for genetic testing prior to conception. READ MORE
What vitamins to avoid during the second trimester?

What vitamin supplements can I take during the third trimester?
Welcome to the home stretch Momma! Continue taking your prenatal vitamins and any other medications/supplements prescribed by your OB/GYN. Starting at 38 weeks, you can began doing perineal massages, which help the elasticity of the tissue down below and reduce the possibility of tearing while you give birth. Also beginning at 38 weeks, you and your partner should have sex, as often and can be tolerated, as sperm contains an enzyme that natural ripens the cervix. READ MORE
Is it safe to have a flu shot while pregnant?
Yes, There are scientific studies that show the flu shot is safe and beneficial during pregnancy. Your body is compromised and immune system weakened, so the vaccine helps you create antibodies against the illness. Also, you pass those antibodies to your baby. READ MORE
